zen_monk: Daffy sulking off (Daffy Stalks off sulking)

And thus I start off FFVII with an ominous shot of Aerith talking to electrical systems/mako leakage. The screen for the game is set to 1278 by 720...ish. Somewhere along those lines. Playing it on a 15.6 inch laptop.

Product placement of a UK band that eventually became its own badly written mythology in a spin-off game. Goblin's Bar sounds like a banging place to be, though.

Logooooooo

The battle animation looks way more decent compared to the PSN port. A lot smoother and more noticeable body movements.

Plot conflict

Oh yeah, and I named him Squall. :B
It was a spiteful indulgence, I'm sorta sorry.

It's too bad that they don't animate mouths in-game. Jessie is a constant state of :O as well as everyone else who aren't the main characters.

Got an achievement

Cloud just closed his eyes here? Jessie is in a perpetual state of :O and Cloud can go >_< squint face here? Priorities, Squeenix.

Mako up close I guess? Must be the processing part and not like.. actual vein of the Planet.

And here we have the first moment of Cloud's spider senses.

I'm thinking this is how his subconscious communicates with him; like, not as a separate person, but that this is one of those "this is me talking to myself and I'm saying to myself THIS ISN'T JUST A REACTOR SO LOOK IT UP CONSCIOUS BRAIN." Kinds of things.

Aw yeeaaah.

Close up of what LOVELESS the....something... looks like up close. (And if people keep saying how Midgar is trying to be America, like some notorious tumblr user tried to prove in a post that was going around, the constant appearances of Kanji/Chinese characters seem to imply that it's some sort of Asia town everywhere.... almost as if it was meant to be read as though the world is predominately Asian aesthetics and culture... hmmmmmm ponder ponder...)

Jessie's bomb.

A fanart moment has happened.

AVALANCHE propaganda as read by a man who's reading from a billboard...

Cloud having a major 'ttude here. His devil-may-care mixed with occasional jock snark leads me to believe that he's mixed with not just Zack's personality but also Sephiroth's sort of aloof emulation. More on that theory soon.

Midgar has a standard time/ is the standard time. And remnants of grunge/80s punk wear emerges. Complete with :O face. Me too, punk lady, me too (I like her leggings. The zettai ryouki thing was happening in the 90s).

....that's not a very high place off the ground...

I was confused how this get regulated every time I play this game in the past. Now I can use screenshots and try to analyze this: to ride the trains, you need to go through checkpoints with IDs that Shin-ra Company can check on and look into your background information. But there are what appears to be stereotypical mentally ill hobos here on the train... well, one of them. Or for all I know this isn't a hobo at all but that a person actually does live in a train that is running, who knows with FF7. This means that not everyone can ride the train without some manner of identification with them where the company can track where they're going via checkpoints (or else they get booted, I guess), or that everyone in Midgar is given a compulsory ID card so that they can use such public things....  like you're born into a members rewards points program that functions as a state ID.

Privatized public transportation!

There's also commentary about poverty and how people who literally on top also literally fart down their wastes to the people living below them, an elegant symbolism of how people who don't have the means to get out of that area are laid low by the petty bourgeoisie above.

I wondered how long this place was in development; presuming it's around 30 years since Vincent is all bright and pristine as a Turk so construction of Midgar plate was probably made before him, too. Probably around his dad's time. So within a 50+ year reign, Shin-ra built up energy monopoly and capital enough to create a city built over 8 cluster of towns or districts I guess where no one remembers their original names... like it's "Atlantis the Lost Empire" where everyone forgot their written language? There must have been some heavy cultural sanitation committed by Shin-ra start erasing parts of history to replace it with their own vocabulary and words. Like, how can people forget unless it's really been a long time ago what were their original names, but shouldn't that withstand some test of time unless a third party interferes with it and actually tries to make sure the names are around any more?

The whole "there were once 8 towns that had names, but no one remembers them anymore except only as Sectors" is almost like this weird throwaway line just to make the place even more dismal. That the past is literally forgotten about even though it's always this "hunting for the true past" that permeates throughout the game.
