May. 17th, 2014 09:06 pm I've been marathoning Star Trek Voyager because of wanting to see Kate Mulgrew (Flemeth, from Dragon Age) act. I was not disappointed.
Thus far, common conflict plot points are:
1). Don't mess with prime directive, but still walk in and be caught up in a big mess that still makes them look like first contact colonialist bullies.
2). Attempt reconciliation only for it to fail and look more like a party bus full of overpowered bullies.
3). Find resources for sustainable long-term journey back home only to be caught up in sci-fi what-if scenarios. Usually to be reset back to status quo by end of episode.
4). Space gangsters who are dumb as bricks and just as violent when thrown.
5). Banal plots that we hope never to remember again episodes onward. Usually involving disconcerting body horror.
I do stay watching it because Capt. Janeway's pretty cool, and gets to be excellent science ladies with Be'lanna; the three engineering amigos Be'lanna, Paris, and Harry Kim (tho i want more Kim and Be'lanna science buddies interactions because that's very exciting); Tuvok's judgmental face and stoicism; and Kes.
