My brother wanted to get into the Dragon Age series, so I let him use my Origin account so that he could play Origins and DA2 on his computer (and also because my other pc downloadable files of those same games apparently download at a snail's pace compared to Origin, but then we run into other issues regarding origin log-ins...)

which then resulted in him buying Inquisition on my account which I have mixed feelings about (because on one it's his money so he now has more right to my account unless i square that off with buying him Inquisition on his [or another acceptable route]).

As a test, I downloaded Inquisition today and made sure to set all graphics into something akin to crappy early PS2 graphics/advanced PS1 graphics.

And apparently I can play this game???? Even though this computer has not-game specced mechanics???

I guess this means I should just take a lot of breaks on this game, but we'll see if I can actually play the damn thing.

[good bye college, i already feel guilty in not seeing you.]

I've been playing it on a low-ish specced machine, and TBH it does make me want to upgrade. Lots of lagging, even on the lowest graphic settings. Plus so much of the game is enjoying the long vistas, drifting sand, detailed tree leaves, it feels sad to lose all that.

Oh, and the worst of it: the low mesh settings turn all metal and everyone's hair into shiny shiny plastic.

I'll play devil's advocate for the renegotiation with self for a PC instead of PS4. PC does so much more than playstations these days, and my IRL gaming friends have not been impressed with the PS4.

I'm holding off on the PS4 until there is one game which I really want to play which can't be had on any other platform, and to date everything is on PC and with better reviews for PC performance.

Plus the benefit of a high powered computer for uni work as well -- much more versatile.

I am seconding all of this--- have never never never regretted my gaming-quality PC for work as well as play! This is especially true if there's any potential for online/hybrid classes in your future, where some or all of the course content is going to involve video chats/streaming video for lectures/other multimedia fun and games. (And I also am not personally excited about the PS4, since I too haven't found anything I really want to play on it--- oh, FFXV, why so many interchangeable teenage-boy protags? DO NOT WANT.)

Yeah, the off the shelf computers are always ridiculously costed. I've had some luck with friends' recommendations of little computer places that do custom builds, but it's also a matter of knowing exactly what each part does so you know they're not upselling for no reason...maybe forums?
