 Man I'm all for diverse media but I don't think it means seeing put-upon and exploited Chinese people in a british period drama just to show they exist in the early twentieth century with badly written Chinese banners. 

Not to say they didn't exist as exploited people in early twentieth century post-WWI Britain but they don't even have lines, man. 

So so this is me watching Peaky Blinders on Netflix cuz I liked period dramas like Send in the Midwife and The Bletchley Circle. Although I guess it shows that western male period dramas have diametrically opposed themes sometimes.

Ew. I had a bad feeling about Peaky Blinders, thanks for giving me a reason to not want to get into that.

Peaky Blinders is like, for people who think white mobster psychos are deep because of they suffer shell shock and that they're nice because they get intimate sex scenes with rich pretty ladies.

And it's like BBC style diversity where it's like "diversity! Our Chinese people are suit making opium dens who do prostitution on the down low! We have two black people in the show and they are associated with the criminal protagonists while having two speaking conversations! The local jazz club with all the black musicians are filled with sex and drugs, as though England doesn't put laudanum in like half their household products and medicine. And cocaine is used by criminals even though Sherlock Holmes uses it twice a day for his genius."

And the obviously evil English people get like two seasons before they get what they deserve. And the women are there for manpain! Even the mom and she is the only one who gets respect!

But goddamn bless for Bletchley Circle and Send in the Midwife.

I got sick at the end of this week and I spent the first half day home watching Send in the Midwife. I'd been waffling about it, but Netflix has been reccing it to me for a while and my head was hurting too much to handle the subtitles on Atelier yet.

Thanks for the rec! It's really good, I'm enjoying it!
