I guess what tipped me off that Saturday wasn't going to be fun was that during lunch, when there's no boss around so me and the other waitress could watch whatever's on the tv. Since it's DirectTV, there's a lot of channels, so we would watch reruns of Project Runway Season 5.
No Project Runway reruns at all on anything that day.
I also knew that we would be understaffed that night, needing one more waiter to help out, and because of that the owner/boss would come to the restaurant and do cashier for the night. I prayed that it wouldn't be so busy that night, because that man couldn't keep up with the cashier job efficiently if it saved his life. It's pretty much a guarantee that if it's a busy night and he's the one doing it, the flow would trip itself up like going down a road filled with potholes and uneven pavement.
At first it was pretty slow. Nothing too bad that me and the other girl couldn't handle. But for some reason, he was still pissed off at something, so the mood of the restaurant was sour.
Then we were floored from about 6 till 9:45, when we should have been closing the evening by 9:30 and capping the amount of customers coming in. So much rush between the floor and the kitchen, and literally every table were pulling us around with demands. It wouldn't have been so bad if the owner hadn't just seated people and not even bother to take their drinks. At least I would know that there are new people around and that I shouldn't have to be pointed out that they're out there needing waters and when 20 other customers wanted waters, too.
Or, if he could just catch up on the tickets and finish them earlier instead of just doing them when we ask for them, because then he gets 5 requests and he frustrates himself over having to get everyone's.
Miraculously, after it all, only one table complained about the service, and honestly, it shouldn't have been as huge a stink as it should have. Sushi chefs always seemed to get a roll mixed up, and even worse that night, they forgot to make orders altogether. I had to keep apologizing to so many tables, and all of them took it in stride. That one table at the end of the night, complained that they were missing 4 rolls. Instead of just bringing out the list and sorting out the situation, the owner came down to them and told them that they got their rolls before. His tone towards them was accusatory and was just shy of calling them out as thieves. If it had been me, I would have just had this lengthy discussion over what happened, make sure they got their rolls, apologize because of the rush, and just leave it aside. But no, because of that unpleasant discussion, they cussed out the owner, said that they never wanted eat here again, and that they had never gotten this kind of service before and that the owner should have been more compassionate and reasonable.
For the most part, both sides were wrong and right. Owner shouldn't have been disrespectful towards them, especially considering it's his restaurant and he owned a chain of restaurants, but also the table-people shouldn't have been so confusing in their order; their sushi list was too messy.
Honestly, I wouldn't have cared if they came back, and that I was glad they cussed him out. Because he really needed to learn how to control his feelings.
On top of it all, I got my Tifa Cosplay. Fast shipping and good material, Chinese tailors, but the thing is, the pants and skirt were too small for me. That was 80+ dollars down the drain.
That was doomsday for me.
