Thank you, libraries
Jan. 13th, 2012 07:34 pmIt's really only in public libraries do you see the complete set of Escaflowne the manga in all its typical '90s art styles of waifish angry boys and mousey heroines, as well as scattered Tokyopop manga series reduced to odd-numbered singles on the shelves. And also Gravitation, to my amusement.
But also, thank you for the new-fangled self-checkout machines when checking out books. It just goes to show how long it's been since I've last been to the local library that's not connected to a college. But alas, I'm also slightly saddened that there are fewer books on the reference shelves than last remembered in my hazy childhood memories. A sign of many book-selling? Or perhaps I should be hopeful that it might be a sign of newer books coming in to freshen up the selection?
And then cry inside at the knowledge that there must be many good out-of-print books no longer at arm's reach...
