I've finished Redcliffe in Dragon Age: Inquisition, and thus far have accumulated probably all companions save for Cole (no doubt he might show up next) and I'm starting to get some definite opinions on my squad though I do acknowledge that everyone is still in the early parts of their story arcs. Also a non-spoiler kind of observation, though I will put in a read-more.

In this playthrough, I'm going to romance Solas, continuing the trend since my involvement in Dragon Age fandom where I try out the ship that most folks talk about (Such as Alistair and Anders). Aside from noted spoilers which doesn't yet affect me since I don't know them in context, I think I've settle comfortably in this opinion that he's the mysterious academic who is outcast among outcasts (if we consider the Dalish to be outcasts, and it may wel be given how each clan operates incredibly differently). In a way, Solas has become what Merrill could one day be, which is someone who extended beyond the acceptable boundaries set in universal by the Dalish, and that their ventures into retaining or preserving the past for the sake the future runs counter to the still tenuous stability of the Dalish as a whole.

Sera, in counterpart, is someone who I wish I could interact as a City Elf rather than a Dalish one, since she seems to do her best in maintaining the boundaries between elves and wanting nothing to do with what the latter stand for. Getting mixed feelings on Sera, but I do think she's wonderfully voiced. Her writing is also really good, too, I'm really impressed by how she got written. How she's written though, is getting into that mixed reception that fandom is having that I'm having. In some ways I'm reminded of how I felt about Star Trek Voyager's Neelix, who I consider to be well-acted in that character but.... man, that character.

Cassandra is amazing as I've always expected her to be since DA2, and also whose exposition on the Seeker as a whole really do interest me, seeing as they are able to be as templars but even greater than templar with their own variation of specialized abilities and powers from age-old times. Makes me think that there is a greater overlapping between what is magic and what was assumed to be mundane. (I also get a kick to know that her voice actor is the same one who did Varania).

Kinda holding out for Varric. Hasn't yet have plot things where I can see more from him than just in DA2. But new people, new stories from him, I suppose.

Blackwall is kinda there, but he does add a distinct flavor from among the cast. He sounds like someone from a very distinct class of people which I don't think is seen often in Dragon Age as a whole, actually. He's kinda like what Daveth could've been like should he survive the Joining.

Iron Bull is like the antithesis of Sten, but he is still much like Sten that he provided just what I liked about Qunari characters. Enough to be intrigued and wanting to know more about Par Vollen and the Qun, and how he provides a contrasting philosophical discourse and way of life. What I actually thought of the Qun is that, in comparison to the more feudalistic and stratified Thedas, they seem much more revolutionary of a society which in comparison might be anachronistic. But the fact they are so othered and distinct and do parallel other civilizations in sorta our world that they make the dynamic that much more interesting.

Dorian and Vivienne are both very interesting people. I probably shouldn't group them together like this, but they are very similar to one another. Well-taught mages who are savvy and well-versed in their field, but with some noticeable chips on their shoulders.

That should almost be everybody right? I'll hold off on the opinions of Advisors for now, though I've talked of Cassandra. All four of them really do bring something interesting to the Inquisition, moreso than the companions do.

I really like Iron Bull's banter where he tries to convince others that the Qun is a better way to live -- but that ultimately he's disinterested in bringing it to the rest of Thedas because people would get hurt. Maybe more later after you've played further, but the more I think about the characters outside of the game, the more I like the way he was written. Although that could be my bias for SAS-type characters speaking. XD
