Happy Chinese New Year
Mar. 3rd, 2007 10:00 amEven though Chinese New Year was, what, a week or two ago? There's still a party going on at the local Chinese school, and since my older brother and I used to went to Chinese School, and my younger brother still goes there, and the fact my dad's part of the faculty, I went to the party. Aside from food, there's a Lion Dance from the Lion Dance Club at UCSB, and Kung Fu from the Kung Fu class (taught by a couple of the Lion Dance Club members), Chinese recitations, a chinese instrument, called the zither in English, performance; and a few plays.
Now, while these activities sound very good, mind that most except the Lion Dance were performed by children. I'm not really into child performances that aren't really organized or half-hearted. So I don't watch them. I chilled with the Lion dancers, because I do know a few of them, and I discussed with them University life that I will attend and life in general. We even played "Skip It!" for a while with a tennis ball attached to a long white rope.
So, I had a pretty good time at the party as I chatted with them. If I hadn't, I'd probably be sleeping through the whole party. There were less desserts this year, which rather annoyed me, and there was less variety of food than before. However, what I liked about this year was that there were tables. Before there were rows of chairs and everyone have to eat at their seat holding the plates of Chinese food in their hands. So a table was a welcome change.
